The Salt Box
Salt preserves whatever it is given. This page lists what goes in the box, what it is for, and how you can empty it.
What goes in the box
- Your email, your password (hashed), the name you gave, your birthday, your gender, plus extras you add to your boots.
- Your conversations, and the notes a walker holds so she can recall you.
- Two cookies: one for your session, one that says you passed the age register.
- Payments leave an amount and a transaction reference. A bank card never arrives.
- Server logs, held briefly for security.
What it is for
Everything stored is there to keep the chat running, to hold it to the code and to keep the trail open. Software we operate, or one provider tied to that single job, processes your messages, and automated scans look them over for safety. Your conversations are not on sale, and advertisers see none of them.
Counting walkers
A simple counter records how many people arrived and by which route. It cannot see inside a conversation.
Your controls
The menu inside a chat lets you edit a walker's notes on you, copy the walk, or start the stage over. To clear the whole account, email the trail office from your signup address. Should the law where you live give you more, write and ask.
